what I teach is not a method nor a style, and it has no form

Even though my work tools are Anatomy Trains Structural Integration bodywork, Slings Myofascial Training and yoga, when I work with students and clients it is moreover a interactive and personal interaction; it’s the passing on what I learned, something that you can use in every form or method of movement.

 

I’m teaching a quality of movement and bodywork.

It’s not a belief system or science. There is no philosophy. It is an approach, a questioning and a finding of  answers that we interpret in the moment and integrate into a single whole. You are the explorer; you are exploring yourself through the movement and space of your body.

 

You can increase your quality of living and your health. You can increase your performance as an athlete. You can be your own bodyworker. It is healing through integration our scientific research into your life. We look at the almost undetectable development of a movement; its birth in our body and our world.

 

I’m teaching tools. No method.

It’s an exploration of how we move our own body-world through the body of the world. What I teach doesn’t add anything to other styles of movement methods, but it frees up a lot. 

Through this approach, your potential is released and fully unfolds. It’s not a concept or an idea. It’s the cultivation of a natural, basic dynamic of the energies of the universe.

It’s a delicate journey and balancing act. And I want my students and clients to understand more than just theory. Movement and bodywork are practices of living with full awareness and in complete mindfulness.

 

In a way I’m a traditionalist and I have a deep love for the insights of modern science.  

My teachings are informed by the work of my teachers, mentors, by mindfulness practices and the sciences of movement influenced by yoga, Pilates, natural movement, methods of corrective exercises as well as by my students and teachers. I have learned from my experiences and lessons moving barefoot on land, and in and on water.

Chi, the Vāyus, myofascial meridians, tensegrity — they are all talking about one thing: energy in motion, energy in relation with matter and space, and the transformational nature of energy.

 

None of this is my invention, yet what I teach is my most vital understanding of all these things in the moment.

They are principles that inform our movement with smart physical alignment tools, mindfulness and energetic experience. They are simple, yet not simplistic, principles that allow the practitioner to approach movement of any style and tradition.

Why am I saying all this?

I want you to understand, that even though you learned and apply different body maps, bodywork-, movement- and mindfulness philosophies, at the end of the day it comes back to your awareness and acknowledgement that life, our body and mind don’t know black and white.

Black and white is a lazy way of thinking. It neglects the appreciation of the complexity of life.

I want to remind you, to constantly inquire and to ask yourself - even though you may think you already know:

What else can I learn? What am I not seeing here? What is it, that I don’t know? Where am I generalising? Am I missing anything? Where am I deluding myself? What don’t I know, that I don’t know?

As a student and client you  learn how to move with awareness, safely and intelligently. As a bodyworker and teacher, you will discover how to grow in your practice and how to teach your clients and students in a way that is accessible, inviting and informed, which will allow both of you to deepen your practice, confidence and growth.
